TONIGHT ON THE TERRORDOME: Arlo Maverick on Building the Music Scene + Ory Okollah on Becoming an Activist

Two of the featured performances will be by jazz-soul-R&B artist Krystle Dos Santos and the sensational hip hop group Politic Live. On Monday, Politic Live leader Arlo Maverick spoke with me by telephone about the politics of community-building for African-Canadian musicians. But he began by telling me about the gig itself. Right now the North of Nowhere Expo is running in Edmonton with showings of various progressive, pro-democracy films and stagings of numerous arts and culture-jamming workshops. Thursday night at 8:30 pm at the Stanley Milner Library, Edmonton Room, check out the film Infiltrating the Underground: The Corporatisation of Radical Culture. On Friday at 4 pm, see Consuming Kids: The Commercialization of Childhood at the Milner, and at 7pm see Radical Jesters: A Film about Media Hoaxers & Culture Jammers. At 8:30pm watch American Radical: The Trials of Norman Finkelstein, also at the Metro Cinema. And on Sunday, Oct. 25, watch the Palestine Film Fest at the Metro, including the Canadian premiers of The Color of Olives, Telling Strings and Palestine Blues, with other films including Beyond Blue & Gray: Portraits of Palestinian Creativity Under Occupation and Art & Apathy: Israeli Conscience & Culture.
